When You Snooze, You Win

If you’re ever in the Denver area and looking for a place to have breakfast, you can’t go wrong with Snooze. It’s one of our standing favorites, so we felt it was fitting to start our vacation here. The original is located in the LoDo area of Denver but it has since started eateries in 2 other Denver locations, Fort Collins, Boulder, and even San Diego. Their specialty is pancakes (of which they have many fun varieties and a daily chef’s choise), but it is always hard to pass up their eggs benedict.

We went with the “Bella! Bella! Benny”, an eggs Benedict that substitutes 3 thin slices of prosciutto in place of the Canadian Bacon, and replaces the English muffin with ciabatta bread. What makes it really delicious is the cream cheese hollandaise sauce, Taleggio cheese, balsamic glaze, and arugula to top it off.

Along with our eggs benedict, we had “Coffee & Donuts” pancakes. This is a pancake with a “doughnut hole” cut out of the middle, glazed with maple icing and topped with crushed pecans and powdered sugar. On the side they gave us espresso cream – it tasted like coffee with Bailey’s! This might have been the best pancake I have even tasted. Of course, anything shaped like a donut with any kind of glaze on top will get my vote. The espresso cream was rich and velvety and complimented the pancake nicely, although I could have just had a whole jug of that stuff and would have been satisfied.
This is the first stop of many on the road to the French province of Québec. You might have thought we would decide on French toast this morning. Instead we threw you a curve ball right off the bat (pun intended… wow there’s a lot going on there) and went with a breakfast that better represents a Catholic monk from Rome. We’ll keep the surprises coming.
